The cards of the ITC8102 series allow space-saving simultaneous current and temperature control for a laser diode. There are three different current ranges, combined with a temperature controller for a thermoelectric cooler (TEC). The cards provide excellent performance with regard to laser current noise and drift as well as temperature stability. The laser diodes can be operated either in constant current (CC) or constant power (CP) mode. Besides standard protection features such as interlock an advanced circuit ensures that transients, e.g. from RF pick ups, can not affect the laser current. When powered on, a softstart function slowly increases the laser current without spikes or overshoots. The temperature window protection switches the laser diode current off if the controlled temperature of the chip falls outside a preset temperature window. Damage to the TE cooler is prevented by an adjustable limit of the maximum allowed TEC current. The ITC8102 cards operate with thermistors and with IC sensor chips AD590, AD592, LM335.

This Thorlabs / Profile LDC8040 Laser Diode Current Control Card is used, and in excellent condition. It is the newer 16-bit version of the hardware. Current Range: 0 to +/-4 A.

The LDC8040 laser diode control card provides best in class low-noise and ultra-stable injection current to the connected laser diode. The current can be set precisely with 16 Bit resolution. The cards can be operated in constant current mode (CC) or in constant power mode (CP) via the back facet monitor diode. Besides standard protection features such as interlock an advanced circuit ensures that transients, as they may occur at line disturbance, line failure or RF pickups, can not affect the laser current. When powered on, a softstart function slowly increases the laser current without spikes or overshoots. There are three independent limits which can be individually set: one hardware limt set by a 20-turn countersunk trim potentiometer and two software limits for laser current and optical power set via D/A converters. These limits prevent the laser current and the laser power from exceeding the allowed maximum values, even under modulated operation. The card allows the modulation of the laser diode current in constant power and constant current mode via the external analog input port. The card can be easily configured via the front panel of PRO800 / PRO8000 chassis or remotely via IEEE 488.2 commands. The LDC8040 current control card is ideally complemented by the modular TED8000 temperature control cards. Combi control cards with integrated current and temperature control are also available (ITC8000 series).

The TED8020 card is a plug-in temperature controller for the PRO8 Platform. They provide excellent temperature stabilization, typically +/-0.001°C (AD590 sensor), for optimal laser operation and other applications requiring precise thermal control. This facilitates highly stable operation of temperature sensitive components, for example optical nonlinear birefringent crystal, where phase matching requires sensitive control of the crystal's temperature. Separate adjustment of the P, I and D settings of the temperature control loop enables optimal settling times for different thermal loads. If the TED8020 module is used with a laser diode control module in the same PRO8 chassis, the temperature window protection feature switches off the laser diode current if the temperature of the laser exceeds a used-defined temperature window (high and low threshold).

Newport's Laser Diode Burn-In Rack System houses 128 channels in one 34U rack. The rack contains control and measurement electronics, test fixtures, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

The (64) 8510D Dual Laser Diode Driver (LDD) modules in the (4) Newport 9016 Modular Controllers provide 128-Channels at 1,000 mA of current and a compliance voltage of up to 3.5 V. Both Constant Power (APC) and Constant Current (ACC) modes are available. Constant power mode operation utilizes a large area silicon photodiode, which is part of the test fixture. Forward current, forward voltage, and optical power are all measured at a resolution of 16-bits.

The (8) 8350 TEC modules in the Newport 9008 Modular Controller provide up to 5 A of current and a compliance voltage of >8V. The temperature of each laser diode is measured and recorded for increased temperature accuracy.

Newport's Modular Drawer Interface makes interchanging devices fast and effortless. These Modular Drawer laser diode fixtures can be designed to work with any package needed by the user. Newport can be contacted regarding purchasing new drawers to interface to this system, or a custom fixture can be designed by the end-user interfacing to the standard D-sub connectors. On the back side of each Drawer, there are (4) 26-pin and (2) 15-pin D-sub connectors. Of these, (4) connect to eight 8510D Laser Diode Driver Modules in a Model 9016 chassis (to drive the laser diodes), (1) connects to an 8350 TEC Driver Module in the Model 9008 chassis (to drive the TECs), and (1) connects to the Agilent 34970A (to take photodiode readings). This system is currently configured to hold COS (Chip on Submount) laser diodes.

The (8) Modular, Removable Drawers are designed to hold laser diodes for the purpose of burn-in. Spring loaded "pogo pins" secure each chip-on-submount device to a temperature-controlled plate and provide electrical connection with the anode and cathode contact pads. These fixtures hold up to sixteen laser diodes. Each fixture has two peltier coolers to control the plate temperature. A large area silicon photodiode measures the optical output of each laser diode. Each photodiode is angled 8 degrees to prevent back reflections to the laser diode.

An uninterruptible power supply is supplied to act as a continuous voltage regulator and transient suppressor. In the event of power failure, the UPS switches to battery backup power and notifies the computer.

A Pentium laptop computer is included with the system and is located in one of the rack drawers for easy access. Communication with the system and is handled over an IEE488 interface. A comprehensive software package allows complete control, measurement, and analysis including laser diode burn-in life testing.

Newport's Modular Drawer Interface makes interchanging devices fast and effortless. These Modular Drawer laser diode fixtures can be designed to work with any package needed by the user. Newport can be contacted regarding purchasing new drawers to interface to this system, or a custom fixture can be designed by the end-user interfacing to the standard D-sub connectors. On the back side of each Drawer, there are (4) 26-pin and (2) 15-pin D-sub connectors. Of these, (4) connect to eight Dual 8530D Laser Diode Driver Modules in the Model 9008 chassis (to drive the laser diodes), (1) connects to an 8350 TEC Driver Module in the Model 9008 chassis and (1) is open.

The (8) Modular, Removable Drawers are designed to hold laser diodes for the purpose of burn-in. Each drawer has a 2-connector socket (both 96-pin connectors) that accommodate a customer laser diode mount board. The units do not include these boards, but developing one for a specific package would be simple. Each fixture has one peltier cooler to control the plate temperature of the custom board. The fixtures can also accommodate up to (8) large area 10mm photodiodes.

An uninterruptible power supply is supplied to act as a continuous voltage regulator and transient suppressor. In the event of power failure, the UPS switches to battery backup power and notifies the computer.

A Pentium laptop computer is included with the system and is located in one of the rack drawers for easy access. Communication with the system and is handled over an IEE488 interface. A comprehensive software package allows complete control, measurement, and analysis including laser diode burn-in life testing.

This Thorlabs / Profile LDC8010 Laser Diode Current Control Card is used, and in excellent condition. It is the newer 16-bit version of the hardware. Current Range: 0 to +/-1 A.

The LDC8010 laser diode control card provides best in class low-noise and ultra-stable injection current to the connected laser diode. The current can be set precisely with 16 Bit resolution. The cards can be operated in constant current mode (CC) or in constant power mode (CP) via the back facet monitor diode. Besides standard protection features such as interlock an advanced circuit ensures that transients, as they may occur at line disturbance, line failure or RF pickups, can not affect the laser current. When powered on, a softstart function slowly increases the laser current without spikes or overshoots. There are three independent limits which can be individually set: one hardware limt set by a 20-turn countersunk trim potentiometer and two software limits for laser current and optical power set via D/A converters. These limits prevent the laser current and the laser power from exceeding the allowed maximum values, even under modulated operation. The card allows the modulation of the laser diode current in constant power and constant current mode via the external analog input port. The card can be easily configured via the front panel of PRO800 / PRO8000 chassis or remotely via IEEE 488.2 commands. The LDC8010 current control card is ideally complemented by the modular TED8000 temperature control cards. Combi control cards with integrated current and temperature control are also available (ITC8000 series).

This ILX Lightwave LDX-3220 Precision Laser Diode Current Source is used, and in excellent condition. Output Current Range: 200 to 500 mA.
This Newport 64-Channel COS (Chip on Submount), Laser Diode Drawer is used and in excellent condition. This unit is a rackmount chassis with (4) removable modular drawers that each can hold (16) COS laser diode packages.

The Modular, Removable Drawer is designed to hold laser diodes for the purpose of burn-in. A screw and a 'twist-lock' arm secure each chip-on-submount device to a temperarure-controlled plate and provide electrical connection with the anode and cathode contact pads. These fixtures hold up to sixteen laser diodes. Each fixture has two peltier coolers to control the plate temperature. A large area silicon photodiode measures the optical output of each laser diode. Each channel has a neutral-density filer that is angled 8 degrees to prevent back reflections to the laser diode.

The MLC8000 series laser diode controllers are designed to control up to eight lasers from a single module. When fully populated, a PRO8000 chassis can simultaneously power up to 64 laser diodes.

Designed to support high density laser diode test and burn-in, this series provides eight different maximum drive current ranges. The PRO8000 chassis can support up to a total of 16A of laser diode drive current - the sum of the output drive currents from all the installed cards - and can therefore easily support the demands of driving 64 lasers at 200mA each. These modules have been field proven in demanding applications for many years.

This Newport Custom Laser Diode Burn-In Rack System, 256-Channel, CoS Package Type is used and in excellent condition. The laptop computer and the Newport Laser Control System Software are sold separately.

Newport's Laser Diode Burn-In Rack System houses 256 channels in one 38U rack. The rack contains control and measurement electronics, test fixtures, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

The (64) Quad Output 8515Q Laser Diode Driver (LDD) modules in the (4) Newport 9016 Modular Controllers provide 256-Channels @ 1.5 A of current and a compliance voltage of up to 5 V. Both Constant Power (APC) and Constant Current (ACC) modes are available. Constant power mode operation utilizes a large area silicon photodiode, which is part of the test fixture. Forward current, forward voltage, and optical power are all measured at a resolution of 16-bits.

The (8) 8375 TEC modules in the (2) Newport 9008 Modular Controllers provide up to 7.5 A of current and power up to 60 W. The compliance voltage is 8 V. The temperature of each laser diode is measured and recorded for increased temperature accuracy.

These fixtures hold up to sixteen laser diodes. Each fixture has two peltier coolers to control the plate temperature. A large area silicon photodiode measures the optical output of each laser diode. Each photodiode is angled 8 degrees to prevent back reflections to the laser diode.
