EXM-8 provides two RS-422/RS-485 serial ports. It is software compatible with similar PC bus products. The base address, interrupts, DMA channels, and handshake signals are configurable by software. The EXM-8 incorporates the Intel 82530 Serial Communications Controller.

The RadiSys EXM-15A SERCOS Communications Controller provides a modular approach to SERCOS based motion control systems for the OEM machine builder. The interface card is plug compatible with a broad line of VME and EXM industrial personal computer products available from both RadiSys Corporation and Pacific Scientific.

Connections are provided on the front panel for transmit and receive fiber optic cables as specified by the SERCOS interface standard. Two LEDs (one red, one green) give visual indication of the current state of the optical ring. The EXM-29 provides two RS-422/RS-485 serial ports. It is software compatible with the ICS FASTCOMM/422 dual port board, save for two exceptions. First, the EXM-29 is configured via programmable registers on the board, instead of via dip switches. Second, the EXM-29 does not have the capability of sharing interrupts across multiple boards. However, interrupt sharing between ports on the same board is available. Thus, once configured, the EXM-29 is capable of running any software developed for FASTCOMM/422 control, provided different boards use different interrupts.

The HEXM-PPD2 provides 2 axis positioner card. By sourcing the output pulses in to the stepping motor driver or DC/AC servo motor driver, HEXM-PPD2 can control the positioning easily.

Description

The RadiSys EXM expansion interface was developed in 1989 by RadiSys Corporation. It was conceived as a viable solution for local I/O expansion for a variety of system form factors such as VME (the most popular 32-bit industrial bus), VXI (the emerging standard for instrumentation) and EMC (a low cost, small, stand-alone form factor). The EXM expansion interface standardizes the local expansion of embedded PCs in a modular, reliable, space effective, and cost effective manner. It allows the addition of up to 8 expansion modules per embedded PC. Because the EXM expansion interface is electrically similar to the standard PC ISA bus, standard PC software can be used with all EXM modules.
