Description

The Pentek Model 1420 Direct Digital Synthesizer is a complete instrument packaged on a VMEbus card containing either one or two detachable synthesizer modules. Each module contains two independently programmable synthesizers, providing a total of four output channels for the card. The output frequency range of each synthesizer is DC to 20 MHz.

Each of the four outputs can be configured either as a sine wave or TTL-compatible pulse signal available on a BNC connector mounted on the VME front panel. A 10 MHz crystal oscillator provides the frequency reference from which all accuracy and stability specifications are determined. An external 10 MHz reference may be provided to lock the Model 1420 to a system reference.

The Model 1420 may be operated in fixed frequency or Frequency Shift Keying modes (FSK). Several phase modulation modes are also available such as Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) and Multiple Shift Keying (MSK).

The ability to adjust phase between multiple TTL signals is a feature that makes the synthesizer useful in many digital test systems.
