Description

The VB8B Series Variable Optical Backreflector enables a user to specify the fraction of a transmitter's output to be reflected back to the transmitter. This feature enables optimum performance of the transmission system to be determined.

The VB8B backreflector can be used in conjunction with a receiver/transmitter pair, as well as receiver characterization equipment, to establish the magnitude of the reflections that will significantly degrade the performance of the transmission system and to characterize the problems caused by reflections. This information can then be used to specify the maximum allowable reflection level for connectors, receiver pigtails, and attenuators; to verify the performance of an optical isolator; and to select the most appropriate reflection-insensitive light source for the system.
