The Keysight E1406A Command Module provides Slot 0 and resource management through VXI message-based commands. It can seamlessly communicate with any manufacturers message-based VXI module through it's VMEbus system controller and GPIB (IEEE-488)-to-VXIbus interface. Downloadable drivers can be through the FLASH memory allowing users the ability to program devices using the high-level SCPI programming language.

The E1406A offers the ability to maintain high-throughput performance in multiple mainframe systems by including a MXIbus Resource Manager for VXIbus extensions as part of the command module. Synchronizing VXI backplane 10 MHz clock to an external TTL signal is handled through the E1406A's flexible triggering and clock interface.
The E1406A Keysight VXI GPIB Command Module may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
