the Protogate / Simpact Freeway LM-4000 Data Communications Server is based on a passive backplane using a VMEbus and contains 4 slots for VME-based Intelligent Communications Processor boards which support up to 64 serial ports of legacy protocols per enclosure. LAN connections are via standard Ethernet. An optional SCSI hard drive can be used to store boot parameters and network applications.

The Simpact Freeway LM-4000 Data Communications Server Chassis may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
