The Motorola Iridium MXU2000R MultiExchange Unit (MXU) is a multi-channel fixed satellite communications platform designed to provide shared access to the Iridium satellite network for groups of users. Unlike a conventional handheld Iridium phone, the MXU2000R is intended for fixed installation in offices, villages, hotels, industrial facilities, remote sites, offshore platforms, emergency response centers, and other locations where multiple users require access to a common satellite communications resource.
The MXU2000R interfaces directly with existing private branch exchange (PBX) systems or isolated public switched telephone network (PSTN) infrastructures, allowing users to place and receive Iridium satellite calls using standard telephone equipment. The system supports up to four simultaneous voice channels through four integrated L-Band transceivers and automatically routes calls to available channels.
In addition to voice communications, the MXU2000R supports dedicated data channels through RS-232 serial interfaces. The platform can be used for remote telemetry collection, industrial monitoring, security systems, compressor monitoring, leak detection systems, backup communications links, e-mail access, Internet connectivity, and emergency communications.
The Motorola Iridium MXU2000R Multi Exchange Unit System may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
