The VIAVI Solutions / JDSU / Lightwave Electronics 131 Series Picosecond Pulse Actively Mode-Locked Lasers are actively mode-locked diode-pumped systems. These lasers are suitable for a range of applications including seed sources for regenerative amplifier systems, photodetector testing, and electro-optic sampling. Active mode locking allows for built-in timing stabilization and the ability to synchronize the laser to an external clock, or use the laser's clock to synchronize other equipment.

The 131 Series lasers are semi-customizable. While standard pulse durations are around 10 picoseconds to 20 picoseconds (depending on the model), the pulse duration can be factory set to several tens or hundreds of picoseconds by inserting and etalon in the cavity. Also, the standard repetition rate is 100 MHz, but this can be factory set to any fixed rate from 80 MHz to 250 MHz.

The laser is designed for reliable, hands-off operation. The laserhead is air-cooled and requires no special utilities. The system consists of the laser head and microprocessor-based controller. Set-up takes a few minutes.

The JDSU 131-1064-200-E Picosecond Pulse Actively Mode-Locked Laser Controller may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
