The Parker/Compumotor AR-23 absolute encoder is a feedback device that provides digital position information corresponding to a mechanical location.

The AR-23 includes the following features:
- Industry standard size 23 style
- High-resolution-1,024 or 16.384 discrete positions/rev
- Multi-turn (up to 512 turns at full resolution) 8,388.608 total discrete positions
- Microprocessor decoding eliminates user decoding
- Four communication methods:
- BCD (8- or 16-bit words)
- Binary (8- or 16-bit words)
- FtS-4221485 (ASCII Decimal or Hexadecimal)
- RS-232C (ASCII Decimal or Hexadecimal1
- Programmable resolutions
- Multiple encoders may be multi-dropped via RS-4221485
- Microprocessor monitors for errors and sensor failure
- Compatible with AX-A micro-stepping indexer/drive (1.024 positions/rev only)
