The RTX / Raytheon AN/APX-119 Digital Transponder Set provides pertinent platform information based on
the type (commonly called mode) of interrogation received. The digital transponder provides
cooperative Mark XII Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) capability using full diversity selection,
as well as Mode Select (Mode S) capability. In addition, transponder operation provides
interface capability with the aircraft's Traffic Collision and Avoidance System (TCAS), which is
fully compatible with TCAS II. In its simplest form, the transponder receives pulsed radio frequency interrogation signals in any of
six modes (1, 2, 3/A, C, 4, S and upgradeable to Mode 5), decodes the signals, and transmits a
pulse-coded reply.
The RTX RT-1861A/APX-119 Radar Receiver/Transmitter may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
