The Digi AccelePort Xem Multiport Serial Cards and Expansion Ports is an asynchronous system expandable, modular and intelligent serial communication solution designed specifically for small to mid-size multiuser installations. This product is especially well-suited for applications that are expected to start small and grow over time to as many as 64-ports.

This flexible system enables the user to connect up to (64) RS-232 or RS-422 serial ports to a Universal PCI (3.3v & 5v) or ISA-based computer. The result is a fast, reliable way to connect terminals, printers, modems, instruments and other serial peripheral devices, making it ideal for applications such as data acquisition, office/factory automation and industrial process control.

The AccelePort Xem system features a host adapter card with an on-board RISC-based processor that delivers up to 115.2 Kbps performance per port. The system also includes a compact Digi PORTS module that provides access to eight or 16 serial ports. PORTS modules can also be Ethernet-enabled using the PortServer II.

The Digi PC/Xem 1 MB PCI Host Card may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Functions

Host adapter card with onboard 32-bit RISC processor enabling up to 115.2 Kbps per port throughput. Connects via universal PCI slot (3.3V/5V compatible) to Digi PORTS modules housing 8 or 16 EIA-232 serial channels. Supports daisy-chaining up to four PORTS modules for maximum 64 asynchronous serial ports. Includes 256K to 1MB dual-ported RAM for buffering and program storage. Provides intelligent serial port management and data processing for host computer integration.
