Description
This NEOS FOAOM Two Port Coupled Acousto-Optical Modulator is used and in excellent condition.

Optical Interface: FC/PC

The two port fiber coupled acousto-optic modulator (AOM) assembly consists of a highly efficient acousto-optic modulator assembly that is fiber coupled with single mode fibers for input and output. The AOM is designed for operation at 1.55 μm. Its operation is independent of optical polarization. The AOM is not direction sensitive, so either fiber can be used for input or output. The maximum modulation rise time is 100 ns.

The Agilent N1065A is a broadband Acousto-Optic Modulator and Power Booster. Agilent exclusively embeds this instrument within their sales of E2156A/E2158A Optical Amplifier Test Systems, and they do not market the N1065A to sell individually. However, it is a complete instrument that requires no special software or computer hook-ups to operate. It just requires power, an optical input signal, and a modulation signal. The only other connections are for the optical output and the modulation output.

Our email correspondence with an Agilent inside sales engineer regarding the N1065A:

The unit is an Acousto-Optic Modulator for Optical Amplifier Testing. You can see from the attached diagram that the unit requires a +24 V DC power to operate.


In the "Links to Related Material" section below, we have included a diagram showing the N1065A in an EDFA Optical Test System. There are two of them shown in this diagram (AOM #1 and AOM #2). The input of N1065A AOM#1 is from either a DWDM source or a 8168F tunable laser. The input of N1065A AOM #2 is from a broadband EELED. Both are being modulated by a 33120A.

The Front of the unit reads "N1065A Power Booster Test Set" and has Input and Output optical connections. The back of the unit has Modulation Input and Buffered Modulation Output BNCs as well as a power connector. The unit requires 24VDC and we do not have an AC adapter for it.
