Ironics IV-1624 VMEbus 8-Port Intelligent Serial I/O Module Overview

The Ironics IV-1624 VMEbus 8-Port Intelligent Serial I/O Module is a microprocessor-controlled serial communication board optimized for high-performance data transfer operations in a multiple processor environment. The IV-1624 contains eight input/output ports operated through four dual-channel programmable serial communication controller (SCC) devices (Zilog Z8530 SCC). The Z8530 is a full function serial I/O controller able to handle virtually any asynchronous, byte-synchronous, and bit-synchronous serial data transfer through either or both of it's two independent, full-duplex channels. The capabilities of the Zilog SCCs are augmented (on 10 MHz boards) by the 1624's on-board Direct Memory Access Controller (DMAC), which executes high speed-data transfers independently of the CPU. The resources of the IV-1624 are controlled by the MC68010 processor, which in turn can fetch its program from either the on-board EPROMs, the on-board dynamic RAM, or the on-board static RAM.
The Ironics IV-1624 VMEbus 8-Port Intelligent Serial I/O Module may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
