The Interphase V/FDDI 5211 is a VME64, single MAC FDDI controller suitable for both link level and on-board protocol processing. Providing both single and dual attach connectivity, the 5211 features a high performance architecture which utilizes custom Interphase ASICs for optimized DMA transfers and an innovative split buffered architecture which allows for full data movement through the board without any real time involvement from the host CPU.

There are three distinct memory areas on the 5211. The CPU operates from 512K bytes of static RAM referred to as PRAM. There is another set of static RAMs used by the board referred to as SRAM. The size of this bank of memory is variable up to 1 Mbyte. On-board buffer space and on-board shared memory (short I/O space) are implemented in video RAM chips abbreviated BRAM. The BRAM size is variable up to 4 Mbytes.
