The Westermo MD-44 / MD-44DC RS-442 / 485 Converter is designed to convert RS-232 signals to RS-4885/422. The transmitter circuit is activated in response to the incoming data on the RS-232 port, no RTS control is required. This device can be used on a point to point or multidrop network either a 4 wire or 2 wire bus system. The Westermo MD-44 / MD-44DC RS-442 / 485 Converter provides total galvanic isolation and transient suppression to ensure maximum reliability and protection in adverse conditions. Also, there can be up to 32 devices connected on a maximum of 1200m of cable. The transmission range will increase if a cable with lower capacitance and larger diameter is used. The Westermo MD-44 / MD-44DC RS-442 / 485 Converter has two different interfaces. Interface one is an EIA RS-232-C/CCITT V.24/V.28, 9-pin female or screw block. Interface two is an EIA RS-422/RS-485/V.11, detachable 5-pin screw block. The transmission speed of this unit is 300-38 400 bit/s.

The Westermo MD-44-AC Converter may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
