MZ 7776 Mizar Quad TMS320C40 Military Specification DSP Engine

The Emerson / Mizar MZ 7775/MZ 7776 Quad TMS320C40 Military Specification DSP Engines are 6U multiprocessor DSP boards for the VME bus, that are designed to conform fully with military specifications. The boards feature four TI SMJ320C40 mil spec DSPs, each of which is capable of 40 MFLOPS. In aggregate, the MZ 7775/MZ 7776 can process 160 MFLOPS, or more than 800 MOPS.

The MZ 7775/MZ 7776's architecture is particularly well suited for parallel-processing applications. Each of the 'C40 DSPs is connected to six 16-MB/s communication channels for high-speed interprocessor communication. The MZ 7775/MZ 7776 includes 0.5, 1, 2 MB of 32-bit wide global memory that can be accessed by all four processors. Each 'C40 also has its own local memory made up of 32-bit wide, high performance SRAM in increments of 0.5, 1, or 2 MB is also available for startup or boot code. The board's I/O, which is available through the P2 connector on the VMEbus backplane, is completely programmable and includes VSB as an option.

The MZ 7775/MZ 7776's high-performance parallel signal processing capabilities make it an ideal solution for military applications such as surveillance, guidance systems, and command and control systems.

To facilitate development efforts, the MZ 7775/MZ 7776 comes with an extensive selection of software support tools, including the Sun-based Mizar multiuser/multiboard DSP debugger, that allows a design team over a network to develop and debug software running on one or more multichip boards simultaneously in one VME card cage. The Mizar debugger debugs C or Ada source code. The board also supports an ANSI compatible C compiler with a parallel-processing runtime library, a C source level debugger, TI pDSP XDS-510 in-circuit emulator with IEEE Std 1149.1 diagnostic support and the NOS operating system, Tartan's Ada compiler, SPOX, OS-9, VxWorks operating systems, as well as Comdisco's graphical user interface with CGS and Multiprox.
