The Microgate SyncLink WAN Adapter provides a high-speed, synchronous PPP port for computers running Windows NT/2000. This port connects to remote routers or computers using a variety of wide area networking services including DDS, ISDN and T1/E1.
SyncLink emulates an Ethernet LAN adapter, enabling Windows NT/2000 LAN applications to communicate over a wide area network as though locally connected. SyncLink is manufactured in ISA and PCI versions for X86 computers. The ISA version supports data rates up to 2.048 Mbps. The PCI version supports data rates up to 10 Mbps.
For flexibility in interfacing with different types of data communications equipment, SyncLink features three built-in serial interfaces: V.35, RS-232, and RS-422 (RS-530, RS-449, X.21). SyncLink cables directly to data communications equipment such as high-speed synchronous modems and digital service CSU/DSUs. Conversion cables are required for V.35, RS-449, RS-530, and X.21 applications.
The ISA version can be configured for seven (7) different I/O base addresses, eight (8) different interrupt request levels, and five (5) different DMA channels, allowing up to five adapters to be installed in a single ISA computer.
With a 32-bit PCI 2.1 compliant bus interface, the PCI version features Plug and Play configurations of adapter resources, such as I/O base address and interrupt request level. This eliminates the need to manually configure hardware and software settings for these resources. The number of adapters that can be installed is limited only by the number of available PCI slots and interrupts.
