The Abaco Systems 4400V Series Bit Syncs is a comprehensive line of bit sync products that are characterized by compact form factors, low implementation loss, and the myriad of options available on-board that met diverse customer requirements. A broad range of both PC and VME form factors were available. With fixed rates of up to 200 Mbps and tunable rates from 250 bps to 20 Mbps, card-level bit syncs continued to set the standard by which others were measured.
The Model 4400-IP is a fixed rate PCM bit synchronizer on a single-wide Industry Pack (IP) module. Based on a hybrid design of Berg's field-proven bit synchronizer expertise and compact surface mount technology, the Model 4400-IP supports data rates to 8 Mbps. With up to four (4) 4400-IPs installed on a single IP carrier module the 4400-IP provides an excellent, inexpensive solution for multiple stream requirements. The Model 4400-IP provides standard outputs including NRZ-L Data, 0° clock, 90° clock, bipolar tape driver and loop stress (status). The Model 4400-IP is ready to use without software set-up and control; just plug it into an IP carrier. Setup parameters for the Model 4400-IP are factory selected including input bit rate, PCM Code and loop bandwidth. Read back (status) is provided via the IP carrier module and includes signal present and bit synchronizer lock status.
The Model 4400-PF10 is a high performance tunable PCM bit synchronizer module for the PC/ISA bus. The bit synchronizer supports input data rates up to 10Mbps and offers advanced features usually found only in more expensive chassis level units. The Model 4400-PF10 also yields bit error rate performance superior to that formerly available for PC-based telemetry systems. With Technology's exclusive K2 Filter and Filter-Sample detection modes, users can optimize bit synchronizer performance. The Model 4400-PF10 features an implementation loss which is typically less than 1 dB from the Theoretical Bit Error Performance Curve. The bit synchronizer offers several user-selectable features including input source, loop bandwidth, PCM input/output code and de-randomizer (on/off). The Model 4400-PF10 is available with options such as bipolar tape driver output, 3-bit soft decision output and Convolution Encoder/Viterbi Decoder. Programming of the Model 4400-PF10 is accomplished via the PC bus and bit synchronizer read back (status) is available on the same bus.

The Model 4400-VF10 Bit Synchronizer is programmed via the VMEbus. Status (read back) is provided over the same bus and LED indicators located on the module's front panel indicate signal presence and bit sync lock.
The Model 4400-VF20 is a high rate tunable PCM bit synchronizer for the VMEbus. The bit synchronizer has been designed to support bit rates up to 20 Mbps. The Model 4400-VF20 accepts all PCM Codes including DM-M, -S, Miller2 and RNRZ (211 -1 and 215 -1). This full-function bit synchronizer includes standard features such as selectable PCM Input/Output Code, input source, loop bandwidth, and de-randomizer (on/off). The output of the Model 4400-VF20 consists of a reconstructed PCM data stream with a coherent clock. Both outputs are provided as TTL and RS-422 level signals (standard). A Bipolar Tape Drive Output and 3-bit Soft Decision Output are available as options. The Soft Decision Output is compatible for use with Technologies Model 4423-V Convolution Encoder/Viterbi Decoder. All setup parameters of the Model 4400-VF20 such as bit rate, loop bandwidth, input PCM Code, etc. are programmed via the VMEbus. Read back status of actual input bit rate, loop stress, bit synchronizer lock and module health are available on the same bus.
