The SBS IP-MP-Serial Dual EIA-232/422/485 High-Speed Multi-Protocol Serial Port IndustryPack Module is an IndustryPack module that implements two EIA-232/422/485 high-speed multi-protocol serial ports, each with a full set of handshake and clock signals. Protocols include SDLC, HDLC, bisynchronous, NRZ, NRZI, and Biphase. IP-MP-Serial incorporates the Zilog Z16C30 Universal Multi-Protocol Serial Controller (USC) that includes four 32-byte FIFO buffers. The two channels within the USC are completely independent. Each channel has a baud rate generator, a digital phase-locked loop, a vector register, an interrupt controller, and a protocol controller. Additional capabilities include 16- and 32-bit CRC generation and checking, one to eight bits per character, one address/data bit, MIL-STD-1553B protocol support, sync stripping, preamble generation, and digital phase-locked loop circuits for clock recovery.
IP-MP-Serial includes an on-board 3.6864 MHz oscillator to provide all of the standard baud rates. A separate location is provided on the IndustryPack for a user-supplied oscillator to allow non-standard baud rates. The I/O interface provides four external clock lines to permit full-duplex synchronous operation on both channels. Each channel's interface includes an external transmit and a receive clock. The transmit clock can be programmed to be either an input to the IndustryPack or an output from the IndustryPack. The receive clock is an input only.
