Features:
- Low Profile 4U Height
- 19-Inch Rack-Mount Enclosure
- 8-Slot PICMG 2.16 Compliant cPCI Backplane
- Accepts 6U Blades
The Ribbon IPnexus ZT 5091e 4U General Purpose Packet-Switched Platform is a 4U, rack-mount, 8-slot (seven node slots and one fabric slot) CompactPCI
system for telecom and Internet applications built around the PICMG 2.16 V1.0 Packet
Switching Backplane specification. The system features a transversely mounted backplane that
accepts 6U cards at the front and rear. The backplane includes a PCI bus and an H.110 bus.
Slot 1, at the top of the enclosure, contains the system's dedicated 2.16 fabric blade slot,
allowing communication between slots 2-8 via a fast Ethernet switch such as the IPnexus
CPC6600. This topology connects Link Port A from each node to the same fabric. This
provides better utilization of Ethernet link ports on the fabric blade and increased bandwidth to
node slots in a compact 4U chassis.
Slot 8 provides support for a System Master processor blade such as the IPnexus ZT 5524e.
Slots 2-7 allow loading of up to six peripheral blades.
The ZT 5091e also features support for three 3U, 325W AC or DC power supplies in N+1
redundancy, a replaceable fan tray with two high-efficiency blowers, and optional rear panel
I/O.
The ZT 5091e Ribbon IPnexus 4U General Purpose Packet-Switched Platform may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
Functions
A carrier-grade, high-availability, modular communications platform designed for real-time network applications. It functions as a flexible, high-density packet processing system by integrating CPU, DSP, and I/O blades via a redundant, high-speed packet-switched fabric backplane. Key functions include protocol conversion, media processing, and signaling gateway operations (e.g., SS7/SIGTRAN) within a 4U rackmount chassis featuring redundant power, cooling, and shelf management for mission-critical deployments.
Platforms
A 4U rack-mountable, general-purpose packet-switched platform engineered for high-density, high-throughput network processing. It features modular slots for various line cards, supporting Ethernet, optical, and specialized interfaces for IP/MPLS routing, switching, and service delivery. It interfaces with core/edge network elements via standard protocols for data plane forwarding and control plane signaling. Common applications include carrier-grade network aggregation, IP transport, and hosting virtualized network functions (VNFs).
Applications
Designed for high-throughput packet switching in telecommunications networks, this 4U platform supports IP and MPLS protocols for service provider and enterprise environments. It enables aggregation, routing, and traffic management of Ethernet and IP packets, facilitating scalable and flexible network services. Interfaces include multiple high-speed Ethernet ports, supporting integration with access and core network equipment, and enabling deployment in metro and data center networks for voice, video, and data traffic convergence.
Accessories
Requires AC power supply modules, fan tray assemblies for cooling, management processor card, timing and synchronization cards. Interface connectivity through Ethernet ports (RJ-45), T1/E1 ports (RJ-48C), DS3/E3 ports (BNC or SMB connectors), OC-3/STM-1 optical interfaces (SC connectors), serial console port (DB-9), and 10/100 Ethernet management port. Chassis accommodates line interface cards, processing cards, and redundant controller cards in hot-swappable configuration.
Interfaces
Dual IEC 60320 C14 AC power inlets for redundant hot-swappable PSUs. One RJ45 (8P8C) serial console port for out-of-band management. One RJ45 (8P8C) 10/100/1000BASE-T management Ethernet port. High-speed backplane supports multiple modular line cards, providing high-density data plane interfaces including RJ45 (8P8C) 10GBASE-T, SFP/SFP+ optical/copper cages, and QSFP+/QSFP28 optical/copper cages.
Specifications
The ZT 5091e is a 4U chassis-based platform designed for high-density packet processing. It features redundant power supplies, a modular architecture supporting various line card types, and a high-speed backplane for non-blocking switching. Network interfaces include Ethernet, and SONET/SDH. Management is achieved via CLI, SNMP, and web-based interfaces. Common applications include IP/MPLS aggregation, Ethernet services, and mobile backhaul.
