The Pilz PNOZ mc3p Expansion Module may only be connected to a base unit from the PNOZmulti modular safety system. It connects the PNOZmulti modular safety system to PROFIBUS-DP. The PNOZmulti modular safety system is used for the safety-related interruption of safety circuits.

The unit is designed for use in:
• Emergency stop equipment
• Safety circuits in accordance with VDE 0113 Part 1 and EN 60204-1

The PNOZ mc3p Expansion Module is used for communication between the PNOZmulti modular safety system and PROFIBUS-DP. PROFIBUS-DP is designed for fast data exchange at field level. The PNOZ mc3p expansion module is a passive PROFIBUS-DP subscriber (Slave). The basic functions of communication with PROFIBUS-DP conform to EN 50170. The central controller (Master) reads input information from the slaves and writes output information to the slaves as part of each cycle. As well as the cyclical transfer of usable data, PROFIBUS-DP can also be used for diagnostics and commissioning functions. Data traffic is monitored on the Master/Slave side. The expansion module may not be used for safety-related functions.

The Pilz PNOZ mc3p Expansion Module may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Expansion module for a modular safety controller, providing additional safe input and safe output channels to extend monitoring and control of safety devices. Interfaces with the base unit to execute safety logic, process sensor states, and drive safety relays or actuators. Performs channel integrity checks, fault detection, and diagnostic reporting, enabling safe-state transitions and emergency-stop or interlock functions in accordance with certified safety architecture. Supports configuration of channel types and timing via the system bus, and reports status to the host controller for centralized safety management.
