The Keysight 8417D Coaxial RF Microwave Detector is a planar doped barrier detector
offering the characteristics of the Keysight 8474 line of PDB detectors in an economical
package. It is manufactured with an BNC RF connector and BNC video connector.
The detector is designed for use in RF and microwave instrumentation and systems
applications as the detecting element in leveling loops, for power monitoring and for
wideband video detection.
The 8471D Keysight Coaxial RF Microwave Detector may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
Functions
A passive coaxial detector that converts RF and microwave signals from 0.01 to 18 GHz into a negative polarity DC voltage proportional to the input signal power. It interfaces with test systems via an APC-7 input connector and a BNC (female) output connector for connection to voltmeters or scalar network analyzers. Primary applications include scalar network analysis, power monitoring, signal leveling in automatic level control (ALC) loops, and demodulation of amplitude-modulated signals.
Applications
Used for absolute and relative power measurements of CW and modulated signals within RF and microwave systems. Serves as a key component in scalar network analyzers for reflection and transmission coefficient measurements. Employed for automatic leveling control (ALC) loops to stabilize signal generator output power. Also suitable for signal detection, pulse envelope monitoring, and AM demodulation in laboratory, production test, and field service environments.
Accessories
RF Input Connector: APC-3.5 (male) for signals from DC to 18 GHz. Detected Output Connector: BNC (male) provides a DC voltage proportional to input power. Option 001 replaces the input with a Type-N (male) connector (DC-12.4 GHz). Option 002 replaces the output with a BNC (female) connector. Option 003 combines options 001 and 002. No mainframe or chassis is required for operation.
Interfaces
SMA male input coaxial connector for RF signal from 0.01 to 18 GHz. Bayonet locking (BNC) female output connector for video output signal. Single DC polarity operation with negative video output. Requires +15 to +25 VDC bias through the video output. Positive video output available via special order option 001.
