Elmo Motion Control G-BAS3/230SESN Gold Bassoon Digital Servo Drive Overview
Features:
- Up To 3.25 kW of Continuous Power
- 24 VDC Auxiliary Power Supply
- With or Without STO Out Option
The Gold Bassoon Series Digital Servo Drives are part of Elmo's advanced Gold Line. They operate from an AC power source in current, velocity, position and advanced position modes, in conjunction with a permanent-magnet synchronous brushless motor, DC brush motor, linear motor or voice coil. They are designed for use with any type of sinusoidal and trapezoidal communication, with vector control. The Gold Bassoon Series can operate as a stand-alone device or a part of a multi-axis system in a distributed configuration on a real-time network.
The drives are easily set up and tuned using Elmo Application Studio software tools. The windows-based application enables users to quickly and simply configure the servo drive for optimal use with their motor. The Gold Bassoon Series, as part of the Gold Line, is fully programmable with Elmo's motion control language.
Power to the drives is provided by an AC power source, either directly from the mains or via a transformer.
An auxiliary 24 VDC power supply is required as the Gold Basson does not operate without one. In addition, the Auxiliary 24 VDC also powers the heat cooling fan. This smart fan is activated only "when required", significantly prolonging the fan's life-time. The auxiliary 24 VDC power supply also serve as a backup functionality.
The Elmo Motion Control G-BAS3/230SESN Gold Bassoon Digital Servo Drive may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Elmo Motion Control G-BAS3/230SESN Gold Bassoon Digital Servo Drive Description
Functions
Provides precise closed-loop control of servo motors through digital signal processing, executing position, velocity, and torque commands with high-resolution feedback. Features integrated amplifier circuitry for three-phase motor drive with configurable current limits and protection algorithms. Supports multiple communication protocols including EtherCAT, CANopen, and RS-232 for integration with motion controllers and PLCs. Incorporates advanced trajectory generation, electronic gearing, and coordinated multi-axis motion capabilities for industrial automation applications requiring sub-micron positioning accuracy and dynamic response characteristics.
Platforms
Designed for integration into AC-powered industrial automation systems, this digital servo drive operates from a nominal 230 VAC supply, supporting brush and brushless DC, rotary, and linear motors. It features high-efficiency vector control with sinusoidal commutation, real-time EtherCAT and CANopen deterministic network communication, and is compatible with various single, dual, and gantry feedback sensors. The device is wall- or DIN rail-mounted, offers advanced tuning and safety features including Safe Torque Off (STO), and is suited for high-dynamic motion control applications demanding wide current, velocity, and position bandwidths.
Applications
Designed to provide precise and high-efficiency digital servo control for AC-powered rotary, linear, brush, and brushless motors, this servo drive operates within an industrial hardware platform requiring a 230 VAC supply. It delivers up to around 950 W continuous power with peak current handling for dynamic motor control and supports advanced motion control modes including position, velocity, and current. Integration is enabled through standard industrial interfaces and EtherCAT networking for multi-axis synchronization. Typical applications include robotics, automation machinery, factory motion control, and systems requiring compact, high-density servo drive capabilities with intelligent feedback and tuning options.
Accessories
Power supply, communication cable (Ethernet, CANopen, or RS232), feedback device (encoder or resolver), motor. Interfaces: Power connector, digital I/O, analog I/O, encoder/resolver input, Ethernet/CANopen/RS232 communication port. Connectors: Screw terminals for power and I/O, RJ45 for Ethernet, DB9 or similar for serial communication, D-sub or similar for encoder/resolver.
Interfaces
RS-232 serial port 9-pin D-sub connector for configuration and diagnostics, CANopen communication via 9-pin D-sub connector, analog velocity command input ±10V differential, encoder feedback interface supporting incremental encoders with A/B quadrature signals and index pulse via 15-pin D-sub connector, digital I/O interface with 8 programmable inputs and 4 outputs through 25-pin D-sub connector, enable and fault signals, AC power input connector for 230V single-phase supply, motor output connector U/V/W phases via terminal block connections.
Specifications
Controls three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors via advanced closed-loop algorithms for precise position, velocity, and torque regulation. Designed for 230VAC input, it interfaces with incremental, absolute, or analog feedback devices. Connectivity includes high-speed EtherCAT/CANopen communication, configurable digital I/O, and analog inputs. Common applications are industrial automation, robotics, CNC machinery, and packaging systems requiring dynamic motion control.

What Customers Are Saying
- Arvind P.
We have some test equipment in our lab from the 1990's that stopped working about 2 years ago. It sat in the corner collecting dust, but we took on a project last month that required more machines. After talking to Artisan, we found out we could get parts to fix our machine for much less than buying a new one!
