The Rockwell / Allen-Bradley 1770-KF2 Data Highway / Data Highway Plus Asynchronous Interface Module links intelligent RS-232-C or RS-422-A (asynchronous) devices to an Allen-Bradley local area network. The user can direct communications over a Data Highway or a Peer Communication Link (PCL), except internet working, by setting switches on the KF2 and changing cables. With a 1770-KF2, a computer on a PCL can communicate with any PLC-5 node on the network. Designed to operate in a control-room environment on a tabletop, the 1770-KF2 uses power from an AC wall outlet. , The Interface Module offers the user a choice of full-duplex or half-duplex protocol on its asynchronous link. The KF2 also features extensive self-diagnostics. At power-up, tests are run on internal memory, timers, and firmware integrity woith any failure causing the red front-panel CPU indicator to flash. Also, the module continuously checks the memory and firmware during operation.

The Rockwell 1770-KF2 Data Highway Communication Interface may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
