The OMICRON CMC 256-6 Protection Relay Test System is designed for testing, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, and verification of protection relays, meters, transducers, control systems, and power system automation equipment. The CMC 256-6 combines four voltage outputs and six current outputs in a single portable instrument capable of simulating power system conditions for protection and control testing.
The platform supports testing of distance, differential, overcurrent, transformer, generator, transmission, distribution, and substation protection systems. The six-current-output architecture is particularly well suited for transformer differential and multi-terminal protection schemes, eliminating the need for additional current amplifiers in many applications.
The CMC 256-6 provides independently adjustable voltage, current, phase, frequency, and timing control, along with binary I/O, auxiliary DC supply capability, and automation support through OMICRON Test Universe software. The system is commonly used by electric utilities, industrial power users, relay technicians, commissioning engineers, OEMs, and testing laboratories.
The OMICRON CMC 256-6 Protective Relay Test Set may still be available for purchase and support from Artisan Technology Group beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Generates synchronized voltage and current test signals for protective relays, with four independent voltage outputs (0–300 VAC per phase; 0–600 VAC single-phase) and six current outputs (0–12.5 A per channel; up to 37.5 A single-phase combination; 70 VA per amplifier). Provides a 0–264 VDC auxiliary supply (up to 50 W). Includes binary I/O with ten inputs, four relay outputs, and four transistor outputs for control and telemetry. Includes a timing reference with 4 GHz accuracy for precise relay testing.
