FP-Serial2flex-485 Tek Microsystems 2 Channel EIA-485 FastPack Serial I/O

The Tek Microsystems FP-Serial2flex-485 provides two channels of high-speed EIA-422/485 serial I/O using the Zilog Z16C30 dual USART. The Z16C30 supports a wide range of communications protocols in hardware, including asynchronous, synchronous, bisync, SDLC/HDLC, and others. Using the Z16C30 by itself, the FP-Serial2 family supports asynchronous communications up to 625 Kbps and synchronous communications with an external clock up to 10 Mbps.

The FP-Serial2flex-485 adds a customizable FPGA front end between the Z16C30 and the external EIA-485 interface, providing unmatched power and flexibility. Standard FPGA programs are provided with the FP-Serial2flex-485 to extend the Z16C30's capabilities, or you can use TEK's engineering toolkit to develop custom logic programs for your specific requirements.

Using the standard FPGA program, the FP-Serial2flex-485 supports asynchronous unencoded (NRZ) communications up to 5 Mbps and encoded (NRZI, Biphase, Manchester, and others) communications up to 2.5 Mbps without an external clock.

The FP-Serial2flex-485 uses TEK's SmartSerial controller chip to implement the fastest possible IP interface to the Z16C30, including dynamic wait states based on IP clock speed and write-posting for better bus utilization. And, each communications channel has its own PLL-based clock synthesizer for generation of arbitrary baud rates with little or no error.
